After Completion of Endodontic Treatment
Endodontic treatment has now been completed. The root canal system has been sealed.Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender for several days as a result of manipulation during treatment and previous condition of your tooth. The tooth is often tender to biting or chewing for several days. A small percentage of cases may take longer than others (sometimes weeks) before symptoms completely resolve. This tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. Discomfort following treatment in no way affects the successful outcome of this procedure.Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed. NOTE: Alcohol intake is not advised while taking any of these medications.
Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with the above-listed medications, or should swelling develop, please contact this office immediately. We are available day and night. If you need to call after hours, please have your pharmacy number available.
A temporary filling has been placed in your tooth.Do not chew food on the affected side until the tooth is covered with a permanent protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen.
A follow-up restoration must be placed to protect your tooth against fracture and decay by your restorative dentist. Your dentist is best qualified to determine how to restore your tooth. We recommend the additional protection of a cast restoration (Onlay or Crown) to protect the tooth against fracture. Delay in obtaining a final restoration may result in fracture and/or possible loss of the tooth. Please telephone your family dentist promptly for an appointment. A complete report of treatment and a radiograph will be sent to your restorative dentist.
Included in your treatment is a follow-up examination to evaluate the progress of healing. This appointment will require only a few minutes and there is no additional charge. Please call for an appointment in six months. If you have any questions or difficulties as a consequence of your endodontic treatment, or if there is ever any question regarding your account, please do not hesitate to call the office. Many times, a phone call will prevent a misunderstanding.
