Jeremy Abbott, DDS
“Dental Pain Without Dental Pathology”
Dr. Jeremy Abbott attended college at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He went on to attend dental school at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in Southern California where he received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 2001. Following dental school, Dr. Abbott practiced general dentistry in Arizona for 5 years within an orofacial pain center and then another 5 years in his private practice. During this time, he received his fellowship in the International College of Oral Implantology. After years of general dentistry, Dr. Abbott decided to dedicate the rest of his career to orofacial pain, and he entered the two-year Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine residency program at UCLA which he completed in 2015. During his last year of residency, he served as chief resident. After graduating, he practiced orofacial pain in California in the largest otolaryngology (ENT) medical practice in Ventura County, California. Dr. Abbott is currently a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, American Headache Society, and Headache Cooperative of the Pacific. He is board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain. In the field of orofacial pain, Dr. Abbott has written articles, book chapters, and scientific abstracts on head and neck pain, pain caused by dental implants, biochemical molecules in TMJ disorders, and the relationship between TMJ disorders and headaches. He lectures nationally on the management of head and neck pain. He also has ongoing research on TMJ disorders and headaches, dental implant-related nerve pain, psychological effects of chronic facial pain, and biochemical molecules in TMJ disorders.
Brian August, BA, MBA
“Marketing Your Practice for Growth and Long-term Success”
Brian earned a B.A. at Cornell University and an MBA at The University of Maryland University College. He is an entrepreneur, investor, and business executive specializing in driving operational improvements for medical practices, improving management effectiveness, and increasing operating margins. He has an eye for balancing the fiscal needs of a company while improving internal processes, leading to greater returns on invested capital. In 2010, Brian led a team that acquired a poorly run, money-losing medical practice. As CEO and majority owner of the company, Brian and his team turned the company into one of the largest multi-location, single-specialty practices in the Mid-Atlantic. During that time, he also started and ran Advanced Medical Management Solutions, a company specializing in designing and developing custom medical software to meet the specific business management and intelligence needs of complex medical practices. Before his time learning the challenges of the medical world, Brian was the Managing Member and majority owner of a boutique investment company specializing in the financing and acquiring of small to medium-sized businesses. He has also served as CFO and Director of Business Development of various multimillion-dollar companies in the Metro DC area.
Prashant Verma, DDS, MS, FAGD
Dr. Prashant Verma received his DDS from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry in California, a Certificate in Endodontics, and a Master’s in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry in Baltimore. Dr. Verma practiced as a general dentist in San Francisco before pursuing specialty training in Endodontics. During his residency, he received the Sherril Ann Siegel Memorial Endodontic Research Fellowship and the Tony Michael Ponti Memorial Award for excellence in clinical Endodontics from the University of Maryland. Dr. Verma is board-certified by the American Board of Endodontics. He is in full-time private practice limited to Endodontics and is a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Division of Endodontics. He is a former Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco. He is an active member of the American Association of Endodontists and the American Dental Association. He has served on the Practice Affairs Committee of the AAE, served as President-Elect of the Howard County Dental Society, completed the Diversity in Leadership Institute program at the ADA, and earned Fellowship in the AGD.
Roger K. Hill, MSA, ASA
Roger is an accredited senior appraiser (ASA) of the American Society of Appraisers, who has also earned the coveted MSA, specifically geared to the business of your practice. With over 30 years of experience serving dentists across the United States, Roger is an active speaker, frequently addressing national and state study clubs and other professional groups. He has published extensively, and recently published a book about practice transitions (published by the American Dental Association). In business since 1979, Roger joined The McGill & Hill Group in 1997.
Neil L. Starr, DDS
Dr. Neil L. Starr graduated from McGill University Dental School. After completion of a general dental residency program at the Jewish General Hospital, he attended the University of Pennsylvania wherein he received postdoctoral training in Periodontics and Fixed Prosthodontics. Dr. Starr is the 2003 recipient of the Dr. Saul Schluger Award for Clinical Excellence in Diagnosis and Treatment Planning bestowed on him by the Seattle Study Club Organization. Dr. Starr has been lecturing nationally and internationally to groups of surgeons and restorative dentists and has authored a series of articles on treatment planning and sequencing therapy in the comprehensive treatment of the partially edentulous case, appearing in the inaugural issue of the Seattle Study Club Journal and the Scientific Issue of the Alpha Omegan. Dr. Starr maintains a private practice in Prosthodontics, in Washington, D.C.
