बेहोश

Why would you consider sedation? Sedation alleviates anxiety, helps you to be numb, reduces gag reflex, helps medically compromised patients, and allows facial muscles to relax so that the procedure is more comfortable. Sedation permits easier mouth opening for longer appointments.

Types of Sedation

We offer three types of sedation. They can be used separately or in combination. Your individual requirements will be discussed. If sedation is agreed upon, your vital signs will be monitored to ensure your safety during treatment.

Nitrous Oxide: This is commonly referred to as “laughing gas”. It is administered through a nasal mask that you breathe through your nose. It has a rapid onset (approx. 2-3 minutes) and since it is a gas, there are no affects after the gas is turned off at the end of the procedure. Patients are able to function normally without side affects, including driving after their endodontic procedure.

Oral Sedation: Oral sedation occurs when you are given a sedative-hypnotic drug prior to your endodontic appointment. You willnot be unconscious for the treatment, but you should feel quite calm and comfortable. You will need a companion to drive you home after the appointment.Oral sedation may be discussed according to your specific needs.

Intravenous Sedation: Our office works with a dental anesthesiologist to provide IV sedation services. You will be unconscious for the treatment. You will need a companion to drive you home after the appointment. The anesthesiologist will consult directly with you prior to your endodontic treatment appointment to go over your medical history, pre and post-operative instructions, and sedation fees.
